Privacy Policy

HearCommunity connects people who are thinking about their hearing with independent, owner-operated hearing care practices near them. This policy explains what we collect when you use this site, who we give it to, and how to get it removed. We have tried to write it in plain language rather than legal boilerplate.
The short version: we collect what you type into the hearing check or the Hearing Match tool, we pass it to one local practice so they can call you, and we do not sell it to anyone else.
What we collect
- What you tell us. Your name, phone number, email address, ZIP code, the best time to reach you, any message you write, and your answers to the hearing check or Hearing Match questions. Those answers describe your daily listening — for example whether you already wear hearing aids, or how often you ask people to repeat themselves.
- Basic technical information. Standard web server records such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you viewed, used to keep the site working and to measure whether our advertising reaches the right people.
We do not ask for and do not want your Social Security number, financial account numbers, insurance member numbers, or medical records. Please do not send them to us.
Why we collect it
- To match you with one participating practice in or near your ZIP code.
- To give that practice what it needs to contact you and prepare for the conversation.
- To contact you ourselves if something about your submission needs clarifying.
- To understand how well the site works in aggregate — how many people finish the hearing check, and which pages they leave from.
Who we share it with
The practice we match you with. When your submission is assigned, we send that practice your contact details and your hearing check answers so they can reach out. Once they have it, their own privacy practices apply to their copy of it, and you deal with them directly about it.
Service providers who run the site for us. We use third parties for hosting, database storage, email delivery, and payment processing between us and our member practices. They handle the data only to provide those services to us.
Nobody else. We do not sell your information, and we do not pass it to a list of competing advertisers, lead brokers, or hearing aid manufacturers. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect someone from harm.
How you hear from us
By submitting the hearing check or Hearing Match form, you are asking to be contacted, and you agree that HearCommunity and the practice we match you with may call, text, or email you at the details you gave us about your hearing care. Message and data rates may apply. You can stop it at any time — reply STOP to a text, use the unsubscribe link in an email, tell the practice on the phone, or email us at the address below. Consent to be contacted is not a condition of buying anything.
Cookies and measurement
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working and to measure how our pages and advertising perform.
This site uses Google Ads conversion tracking. When you finish the hearing check, a Google tag records that a submission happened so we can see which ads are working. Google may set or read cookies in your browser as part of that, and may use them across other sites in the ordinary way third-party advertising cookies work.
Two things we deliberately do not do. We do not send your name, phone number or email address to Google. And we do not use your hearing answers to build advertising audiences or remarketing lists — we are not going to follow you around the internet because you told us you have trouble hearing in restaurants.
You can read how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and turn off personalized advertising at myadcenter.google.com. Your browser settings also let you block or delete cookies; the site still works if you do.
How long we keep it
We keep submissions for as long as we need them to run the service and to keep an accurate record of what was sent where — currently three years from your submission, unless you ask us to remove it sooner, or the law requires us to keep it longer.
Your choices
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to opt out of certain sharing or to appeal a decision we make about your request. We do not charge for this and we will not treat you differently for asking. Email privacy@hearcommunity.com and say what you want done. We may need to confirm it is really you before we act.
Deleting your record with us does not delete the copy held by a practice you were matched with — ask them separately.
Security
Your submission is transmitted over an encrypted connection and stored in an access controlled database. Only HearCommunity staff and the practice assigned to you can see it. No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise.
Children
This site is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.
A note about medical information
HearCommunity is not a healthcare provider and is not a HIPAA covered entity. The hearing check is a set of questions about your daily listening, not a hearing test or a medical diagnosis, and your answers are not a medical record while they are with us. Once a practice takes you on as a patient, their handling of your health information is governed by the rules that apply to them.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. Material changes will be described on this page rather than made quietly.
